Weekend Round-up: Tibbs Keeps Raking
By Morgan Davis · Mon Jun 01 2026
Tibbs Keeps Raking James Tibbs III spent the weekend looking like a hitter who has outgrown the level. On Sunday, the Dodgers outfield prospect launched two homers, added a double, drew a walk, and drove in five runs in Oklahoma City’s 13-4 win over Albuquerque, pushing his weekend line to 8-for-13 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI. He even came within a few feet of a cycle on Saturday, when he tripled, doubled, singled, and then missed a late shot at the cycle by doubling off the center-field wall. The bigger signal is what the stat line is doing to the broader picture. Tibbs is up to a .308 average with 12 homers and a 1.004 OPS this season after Sunday’s explosion. The Dodgers have a deep outfield both at the Major League level and in their system. With three outfielders on the IL, Tibbs could be a great platoon option with Alex Call in left field until the rest of their corps gets healthy. They could also just let Tibbs mash at Triple-A and use him as a trade piece to fill in elsewhere. Quick Hits Darell Morel , Pirates, SS Morel went 2-for-6 across two games with a double, two walks, two hit-by-pitches, and a .600 on-base percentage for the weekend. The contact was lighter than the box score might suggest, but the strike-zone work kept the line moving and fit the broader profile for an 18-year-old middle infielder who already carries a .383 OBP on the season. Jaron DeBerry , Brewers, RHP DeBerry turned in the strongest pure run-prevention line of the weekend with seven scoreless innings, one hit allowed, and two walks against four strikeouts for Double-A Biloxi. The punchout total was modest, but the combination of length and contact suppression fits his season trend. Ashton Izzi , D-backs, RHP Izzi carved up four no-hit innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs in Double-A, giving Arizona one of the sharper starting looks of the weekend from a Top 500 arm. The outing did come with two walks, so it was not spotless, but the miss count and no-hit line matched the stuff spike he has shown since arriving in the organization. Wei-En Lin , Athletics, LHP Lin logged 6.2 innings and allowed one run on four hits with no walks, but he only struck out two and took the loss. The control remained in place and he has missed more bats than this on the season. Khristian Curtis , Pirates, RHP Curtis gave Pittsburgh 3.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and one hit allowed, though two walks kept the outing from getting cleaner. He has 61 strikeouts in 49.1 innings on the season. The arm talent is obvious, and the fastball curveball mix continues to give him a chance to miss bats even when the command drifts. Jonathan Santucci , Mets, LHP Santucci worked five scoreless innings with five strikeouts, one walk, and three hits allowed in Double-A. He threw 56% of his pitches for strikes and will need to find the zone more as he continues to progress. Jose Urbina , Rays, RHP Urbina covered five shutout innings and allowed three hits with one walk, but he struck out only one. It is a fastball-heavy approach with velo and ride. Urbina goes through stretches where he doesn't miss enough bats. The slider command needs refinement. Junior Ciprian , D-backs, RHP Ciprian, ranked 12th in the D-Backs system, punched out six over four innings while giving up three hits and three walks, and he allowed one earned run. The 21-year-old right-hander has walked 20 over 9 starts and 39.2 innings. Kyson Witherspoon , Red Sox , RHP Witherspoon spun four scoreless innings with four strikeouts, three hits, and three walks in High-A. Ranked 81st overall in our Top 100, the 2025 1st-rounder has struggled a bit in his pro debut. He carries a 5.55 ERA through 9 starts. He's walked 21 in 35.2 innings while striking out 36. Chase Hampton , Yankees, RHP Hampton worked 4.1 innings, allowed five hits and one earned run, and struck out three while walking one. Hampton is working his way back from a February 2025 Tommy John surgery. He has a 3.86 ERA after 16.1 innings across 5 starts.
