Coy James
Hitting scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
James has a plausible path to a utility role if the power, athleticism, and arm strength allow him to cover second base while also providing competent shortstop or outfield innings. The 19-homer, 35-steal season gives him more impact than a typical glove-first reserve, but the .220 average and strikeout rate create a meaningful floor risk against better professional pitching. His ceiling rises if the hit tool moves toward average without sacrificing his selective aggression, while the safer expectation is a versatile bench profile. He should be evaluated closely over the next full season for contact improvement and defensive consistency.
