Isaac Lyon
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
The most realistic path is a move to the bullpen, where Lyon’s low-slot angle, strike throwing, sink, and three usable secondaries could play in one- or two-inning stints. The changeup and slider provide legitimate miss potential, but his 90-93 mph fastball leaves little margin for imprecise location against major league hitters and limits the ceiling unless the velocity rises. He has enough command and physical stability to reach the upper minors and compete for a depth role, with an up-down reliever outcome more likely than a durable rotation assignment. A starter outcome would require maintaining his command, holding the changeup quality, and proving the stretch-only delivery can withstand repeated exposure.
