Matt Wilkinson
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
Wilkinson’s path is that of a back-end starter or multi-inning arm whose value comes from throwing strikes, taking the ball, and giving a club a chance to get through five or six innings. The overall ceiling is limited by the absence of a true dominant bat-missing pitch and by a body/delivery that points more to reliability than explosive stuff. His recent run of run prevention and strike-throwing supports a viable major league track, but the homer-prone outings in the bigger sample remind you that the margin for error is still fairly thin. If the command continues to hold and he can keep the fastball from flattening, he can stick as a fifth starter; if not, he fits as a long reliever or depth swingman.
