J.D. Thompson
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
Thompson’s path is built around a deceptive, above-average-playing fastball rather than premium velocity, with enough secondary depth and strike-throwing history to remain a rotation candidate. The most likely outcome is a back-end starter if he restores his college-level control and proves the changeup and breaking balls can be landed consistently against professional lineups. The floor is a left-handed relief role because the fastball and slider should translate in shorter bursts, but the early Double-A walks create meaningful risk to the starter projection. Durability appears supportable from his compact frame and college workload, while command development will determine whether he reaches the projected role.
