Austin Hedges

Scouting summary
Austin Hedges projects to continue functioning as elite defensive backup catcher as long as durability permits. Exceptional catching and framing ability will maintain employment despite offensive futility. Best-case scenario involves steady continuation in reserve role with positive pitcher development impact and potential veteran leadership opportunities. More likely scenario involves continued decline in playing time as younger options develop. Realistically, his defensive excellence represents carrying tool that sustains career, but two-way value remains extremely limited. His archetype demonstrates that elite positional defense can support major league career despite near-complete offensive absence.
