Joey Ortiz

Scouting summary
Joey Ortiz projects as a defense-first shortstop with potential to remain an everyday player primarily due to elite glove work. His floor is utility infielder capable of playing multiple positions defensively at solid level. Without significant offensive improvement in 2026, his ceiling becomes limited to complementary player in right organizational context. The dramatic regression in 2025 raises serious questions about sustainability at major league level, particularly regarding consistency in swing decisions and quality of contact. If he can stabilize offensive approach and return to 2024 production levels, he has value as above-average defender with occasional offensive contribution. However, current trajectory suggests he may become platoon player or bench option unless meaningful improvements emerge. Continued health and technical adjustments to plate approach and swing mechanics will be critical determinants of his future role.
