Shane Murphy
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
Given his below-average fastball velocity and reliance on command, Murphy projects best as a depth starter type who could slide into a swingman or long-relief role if he reaches the majors. The ceiling is something like a back-of-the-rotation fill-in who survives on sequencing and control, but the more realistic outcome is a Triple-A arm who shuttles and provides innings. To reach that outcome, he will need to maintain plus control, continue refining his secondary shapes, and find ways to reduce home run damage as hitters get more selective. Any small velocity bump or improved fastball shape could nudge the role slightly higher, but the margin for error is thin given his draft pedigree and stuff profile.
