Jack Mahoney
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
Given his current arsenal, frame, and track record, Mahoney projects most realistically as a #4 starter type if the command and changeup tick up, with a fallback as a multi-inning reliever. The fastball-slider combination is good enough to get big league hitters out, but the margin for error narrows significantly without at least fringe-average feel for a third pitch. Continued work on delivery consistency and in-zone command will decide whether he sticks in a rotation or shifts to a shorter role where the velocity and slider might play up. Overall, he looks like a potential innings-eating back-end option who could surface in the majors once he proves he can sustain performance at Double-A and Triple-A.
