Tyler Gough

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given the draft pedigree, current stuff, and elbow history, the most realistic outcome is a back-end starter who can ride a solid fastball/breaker combo with fringy command, or a multi-inning reliever if the changeup or durability do not fully come on line. The near-term focus will be building innings while stabilizing his walk rate, as sustained improvement there would unlock more of his mid-rotation upside. If the fastball velocity holds in the low-to-mid 90s and the slider tightens into a consistent bat-misser, he has a chance to slightly outperform a typical #5 starter, but that requires health and command gains. The floor, given his injury track and control profile, is a Quad-A swingman who shuttles between Triple-A and the big-league bullpen.

Projected MLB role: up-down #5 starter
