Ben Jacobs

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given the combination of a playable three-pitch mix, early strikeout rates, and a starter’s delivery, Jacobs projects most realistically as a back-end to solid mid-rotation lefty if the command and durability hold. The fastball-changeup foundation gives him a high probability of at least settling into a long-relief or swingman role even if the slider never becomes a true weapon. For him to reach a #3-type ceiling, he will need to firm up fastball velocity maintenance, tighten glove-side command, and continue to lean into the changeup as a primary out pitch. The floor is a multi-inning reliever who can bridge games and spot start, with a relatively safe path to some MLB role if health cooperates.

Projected MLB role: #4 starter
