Rikuu Nishida

Scouting summary

Given his age relative to level and the long track record of high OBP with minimal power, Nishida projects most realistically as a speed-and-contact-oriented utility or bench outfielder/second baseman rather than a true everyday player. The pathway to sustained MLB value is built on continuing elite strike-zone control, maintaining plus baserunning impact, and providing competent defense at several spots. Without a late power spike, his offensive ceiling looks limited to bottom-of-the-order tablesetter with OBP-driven value, and more likely he settles into an up-down role shuttling between Triple-A and the big club. Floor-wise, the contact and speed make him a strong organizational player who can stabilize lineups at multiple positions in the upper minors. Any jump beyond that would require either noticeable strength gains translating to extra-base damage or a truly standout defensive reputation in center field—neither is clearly present yet.

Projected MLB role: up-down LF
