Diaw has a real chance to become a useful major league bench catcher because the bat-to-ball foundation and on-base ability give him a path even if the power never becomes more than average. The best-case version is a second-division regular if the receiving and throwing settle enough for him to handle a significant share of catching duties while the bat stays productive. The floor is a multi-position bat who does not quite hit enough for everyday catching work, especially if injuries continue to interrupt his development and limit reps. The carry here is more about a playable offensive floor with enough defensive versatility to keep him in the system than about a loud impact tool.
