Levi Sterling

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given his age, frame and existing four-pitch mix, the most realistic outcome is a durable mid-rotation arm who can handle a starter’s workload if the command and physical strength both trend up. The fastball already grades solid and could play a tick better with added velocity or improved life, while one of the breaking balls has a chance to become a true out pitch. If he can sharpen the changeup to comfortably deploy it versus left-handed hitters, it rounds out a starter’s arsenal. The risk is that control and pitch efficiency never quite get to average, in which case his stuff likely plays in a multi-inning or swingman role. Over the next three years, progress in walk rate and the consistency of his secondary quality will determine whether he reaches the #4 starter ceiling or settles into the bullpen.

Projected MLB role: #4 starter
