Luis Perales

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given the premium velocity and multiple viable power offerings, Perales projects most realistically as a setup-caliber reliever who can miss bats and work leverage innings if the strike-throwing stabilizes. The ceiling in a best-case scenario could still resemble a mid-rotation starter, but that outcome requires sustained health, improved durability and a meaningful jump in command that is not yet evident. More conservative is a path where he breaks into the big leagues in the bullpen, gradually earning trust and higher-leverage spots as he shows he can repeat his delivery and execute the cutter and split in tight situations. The prior elbow history and walk rates suggest some volatility, but the stuff is good enough that he should compete for and eventually secure a regular MLB role. Continued refinement of his mechanics and approach will determine whether he tops out as a seventh- or eighth-inning arm or something more.

Projected MLB role: up-down setup reliever
