David Davalillo

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given the combination of velocity, a workable breaking ball and flashes of strikeout ability, he projects most realistically as a depth starter who oscillates between upper minors and the big leagues. To reach even a back-end rotation role he will need to tighten his fastball command, particularly to his arm-side lane, and continue refining an offspeed offering that keeps left-handers honest. The lean frame and relatively clean arm action support a starter’s workload, but volatility in performance and walks suggest a non-trivial chance he ends up as a swingman or long reliever. His ceiling in a conservative view is an up-down starter who can spot start or cover innings in a multi-inning role; the floor is an organizational arm who stalls in Triple-A if command does not come. Progress over the next one to two seasons facing advanced hitters will determine whether his stuff can play consistently enough to justify a true rotation opportunity.

Projected MLB role: quad-a starter
