Deivi Villafana
Pitching scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
Villafana’s path to the majors is that of a depth starter who survives on strike-throwing, sinker movement, and enough pitchability to avoid big innings. The recent statistical improvement is encouraging, but the broader minor league track record still points to a pitcher with only modest margin for error because the hit rate has been heavy and the swing-and-miss rate is only average. If the sinker continues to get ground-ball contact and he sharpens a second reliable weapon, he can profile as an emergency starter or up-down arm; without that, the floor is a non-MLB org piece. The ceiling is limited by ordinary velocity and a pitch mix that does not yet project as overpowering.
