Leo De Vries
Hitting scouting report · 80Grade
Scouting summary
De Vries has a realistic path to an everyday shortstop role because the offensive foundation is built on advanced contact, improving power, useful speed, and the ability to switch-hit. His defensive actions are presently more playable than polished: the hands and arm give him a chance to remain at shortstop, while footwork, positioning, and routine-play consistency will determine whether he becomes average or better there. The shoulder surgery creates meaningful near-term uncertainty and could delay his 2027 progression, but it does not erase the underlying age-relative performance. The conservative floor is a second-division regular or versatile infielder; the ceiling is a solid everyday shortstop if the defense firms up and the right-handed swing becomes more consistent.
