Luis De León

Pitching scouting report · 80Grade

Scouting summary

Given his age, frame, and three-pitch mix, De León projects as a potential mid-rotation left-hander if command and physical strength continue to progress, with a more realistic outcome as a back-end starter. The fastball/changeup foundation already misses bats at Double-A, and the slider offers another path to strikeouts, but he must move from being merely around the zone to consistently hitting spots. If the delivery tightens and he learns to better leverage his arsenal in leverage counts, he could handle a #4 role with average innings and solid strikeout totals. Should command stall or the third pitch lag, his stuff would still likely support a multi-inning relief role. The next few seasons of upper-minors performance, especially walk rate and durability, will clarify whether he can hold a starter’s workload.

Projected MLB role: #4 starter
