Victor Valdez

Scouting summary
Valdez has the profile of a potential middle-of-the-order shortstop if the power continues to develop and defensive consistency improves. The elite bat speed combined with plus arm strength and improving speed creates a high-upside profile. His advanced approach and mechanics are rare for a 17-year-old. The move to shortstop remains possible though third base may be his ultimate home given his overall physicality. The significant signing bonus reflects the Rays' confidence that his offensive game will play at the highest level regardless of defensive position.
