Rays Above Replacement Prospect Weekly: Bodine Torches Triple-A, Cook Gets the Call
By Grace Turner ·
Rays Above Replacement Prospect Weekly covers the last 7 days of action for the Rays farm system.
Bodine Has No Respect for Level Changes
Caden Bodine (AAA, C, Rank: 7) went 3-for-10 with a home run, an RBI, and two walks across his plate appearances at Durham this week, adding another quality line to what has become one of the more consistent offensive seasons in the Rays system. The home run was his third at Triple-A, and he is slashing .348/.400/.591 over his last 30 days at that level with four home runs, four doubles, and 12 RBI in 75 plate appearances. The 9.3% walk rate and 10.7% strikeout rate in that stretch both hold up against what he has done all year: a 9.6% walk rate and a 6.3% strikeout rate across 543 combined plate appearances from Low-A through Triple-A in 2026. For a switch-hitting catcher, those numbers are genuinely rare.
The scouting profile centers on a 60 hit tool and a 60 field grade, with a 40 power grade that the season totals have stretched without fully rewriting. Bodine has 17 home runs across four levels this year, which is not a power-first output, but it is more thump than the compact contact swing typically projects. His 88.4% contact rate for the season pairs with a 54% swing rate, which is aggressive territory, and the fact that he continues to make easy contact at that aggression level is what sets him apart. He has not faced a level yet that has slowed him down for more than a cup of coffee's worth of adjustment. The ceiling here is a regular catcher who reaches base and defends, and at 22 years old, clearing Triple-A this quickly suggests that ceiling is well within reach.
Quick Hits
- Alex Cook (MLB, RHP, Rank: 31) · was recalled from Durham to Tampa Bay on September 15, his second stretch with the big-league club this season. He has thrown 43.2 innings out of Durham's bullpen with a 4.53 ERA and 48 strikeouts this year, and he has appeared in four games since his promotion with 5.2 innings and 5 strikeouts. The September roster expansion gives him a chance to build on a full minor-league season that showed him as a reliable multi-inning arm.
- Brailer Guerrero (A, OF, Rank: 33) · was activated from the Charleston 7-day injured list on September 16, returning after an absence dating back to late July. The exact injury was not confirmed publicly. He was hitting .215/.330/.343 with 5 home runs in 206 plate appearances at Low-A before the IL stint, a season that showed some power flashes but left the hit tool with questions. No game logs appear yet since his return, so the focus now is just getting back on the field with a few weeks left in the season.
